Cookie Policy
Definition, characteristics and regulatory application
Cookies are small text files that the sites visited by the user send and record on his/her computer or mobile device, to be then re-transmitted to the same sites on the next visit. Thanks to cookies, a site remembers the user's actions and preferences (such as, for example, login data, chosen language, font size, etc.) so that these parameters do not have to be set at each new visit. Cookies are therefore used to perform computer authentication, session monitoring and storage of information regarding the activities of users who access a site and may also contain a unique identification code that allows tracking of the user's navigation within the site itself for statistical or advertising purposes.
Some operations or functions of the Portal could not be performed or guaranteed without the use of cookies, which in certain cases are therefore technically necessary for the functioning of the Website.
Depending on their characteristics and functions, cookies can remain saved on the user's computer for different periods of time: there are therefore so-called session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed and so-called persistent cookies, which remain on the user's device until a pre-established expiry date, or until possible manual deletion.
According to the applicable legislation, the use of cookies does not always require the express consent of the user. In particular, "technical cookies", i.e. those used for the sole purpose of ensuring the correct functioning of the Website, or to provide a service explicitly requested by the User, usually do not require such consent.
Conversely, in order to use cookies that are not strictly necessary for the correct functioning of the Portal, but rather functional to the collection of statistical data, or aimed at creating profiles relating to the visitor, in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of web browsing, prior consent from the user is usually required, in accordance with applicable legislation.
Types of cookies
For the sake of completeness, the main types of cookies that exist are listed below:
- Technical cookies: strictly necessary for the operation of the site or to allow you to use the requested content and services;
- Analytical cookies: are instead those intended to provide the site manager with purely statistical data such as, for example, the total number of visitors to the site and each of its pages for each specific time slot. can be assimilated to technical cookies if used for the purpose of optimizing the site directly by the owner of the site itself. If, however, the processing of such statistical analyses is entrusted to third parties, the user data must be minimized in advance and cannot be combined with other processing or transmitted to other third parties.
- Functional cookies: that is, used to activate specific features of the Site and a series of selected criteria (for example, language) in order to improve the service provided;
- Profiling cookies: are those used to profile the user based on his behavior on the site. They are generally used to send the user advertising messages in line with the preferences shown during web browsing
- Social network cookies: these are cookies that allow the user to share the contents of the Site on social networks, or to activate the "Like" or "Follow" functions of social networks. These functions allow Social Networks to identify their users and collect information even while they browse other sites.
Source of origin of cookies
Cookies can then be distinguished based on their source of origin. We will therefore have:
- First-party cookies (or proprietary cookies): are created and used only by the web server of the Website and are not transferable to third parties. This type of cookie is generally used to personalize the browsing experience, automatically recognizing a User who has already visited the Website, not being readable on a domain other than the one in which they were created.
- Third party cookies: are cookies created by domains other than that of the Website that the User is visiting. Third-party cookies are readable both on the domain on which they were created and on any other site capable of reading the code of the server that produced them. Third parties that set cookies on the Website may act as independent Data Controllers, in pursuit of their own purposes, or act as suppliers of the owner of the Website, in their capacity as Data Processors.
In detail, the cookies sent through this Portal are indicated below:
Cookie settings
Selection and deselection: with the exception of cookies strictly necessary for the functioning of the Website and for the provision of the requested services, the User may prevent the installation of third-party cookies on the Website by blocking one or more suppliers operating on the Portal, through the cookie preference selection tool (accessible at the following link) With regard to third-party tracking tools operating as independent Data Controllers, users may manage their preferences and withdraw their consent by visiting the relevant opt-out link (if available), using the tools described in the third party's privacy policy or by contacting them directly. The choices made in reference to the Portal's cookies will in turn be recorded in a specific cookie. However, this cookie may not function correctly in some circumstances: in such cases, the Data Controller suggests deleting unwanted cookies and inhibiting their use also through the functions of your browsers.
Cookie management via browser: It is also possible to remove existing cookies and block the installation of new cookies through the browser settings. Where users want to decide from time to time whether or not to accept cookies, they can also configure their browser to generate a warning each time a cookie is saved. The most popular browsers provide the possibility of blocking only third-party cookies, accepting only those of the Site. Finally, we remind you that by disabling or deleting technical and/or functional cookies, the Portal may not be accessible or some services or certain functions of the Portal may not be available or may not function correctly and it may be necessary to modify or manually enter some information or preferences at each visit.
